A businessman whose mansion was labelled a stag and hen “party house” by neighbours has lost a fight to keep renting it on Airbnb.
Michael Cameron owns Greenloaning mansion in West Linton, Peebleshire, which has nine bedrooms, a gym, hot tub, cinema room and a games room.
But when it was rented by groups of up to 30 people, neighbours contacted police and council officials to complain about noise coming from the property.
The Scottish Borders Council banned Cameron, who owns the Dominion Cinema in Edinburgh, from renting the property in 2018 but he appealed to the Scottish Government.
A reporter upheld the ruling which was appealed to the Court of Session, where judges backed the officials.
Cameron then sought permission to rent out the property to guests for 20 weeks a year but that move was rejected by the council.
He appealed the latest decision to the Government but has once again been unsuccessful.
Neighbour Roderick Buchanan-Dunlop wrote to the Government to say: “Its sole use is as a ‘party house’.”
Rejecting the latest move, Government reporter Paul Cackette said it would “have a significantly adverse effect on the area”.
