It's fair to say that for the first year of it's official release the PlayStation 5 broke the internet. For over a year after its highly-anticipated launch in the UK the Sony console was notoriously difficult to get hold of.
Released in two editions, the PS5 Disc and the PS5 Digital, the PlayStation 5 was and still is Sony's highest-grossing gaming console in history. It has sold more than 10 million times worldwide and was officially launched in the UK on November 19, 2020, selling out instantly.
Demand was so high because of a chip shortage during the production of the consoles, and Sony struggled to keep up. Nowadays demand has dropped slightly due to the consoles becoming more available but the price still remain relatively high for it, so it is likely to feature in the Black Friday sales?

Black Friday is a major fixture in the shopping calendar and allows shoppers to take advantage of the month-long influx of deals and discounts before Christmas. Originally an annual shopping event in the US, the date has made its way over to the UK and across the world, which sees tens of thousands of brands and retailers taking part.
But will Sony follow suit? We have compiled a list below of all the key information you will need to be aware of before their big day starts.
Will the PlayStation 5 feature in Black Friday sales?
Last year's Black Friday was a bit different when it came to the PlayStation 5. The console was still difficult to get hold of and many retailers were still limiting their stock supply, launching special sale dates in advance.
There wasn't deals on the day itself for the console. However, EE had a bundle sale on November 23, 2021, just two days before the big day. BT, Game and John Lewis all announced when their live dates would be for their PlayStation 5 drops too, with most launching early December.
It's hard to predict whether the PlayStation 5 will be featured in the Black Friday sales this year. It seems stock is still only available on certain retailer's website. With that being said though, and based on trends of last year's launces, it is likely the Sony consoles will feature on the following retailer's websites in the week running up to Black Friday itself.
It's worth saving the below retailer's PS5 landing pages so you can keep updated:
What to expect this Black Friday for the PlayStation 5
Games and accessories were massively reduced, with some featuring up to 50% off for Black Friday 2021. But the console remained at the normal price, with only reductions appearing on bundles or accessory products.
PlayStation Store subscriptions were also reduced for Black Friday. In the US, you could head to Amazon where a one-year membership was down to $39.99, and in the UK, ShopTo had the best price of £29.85. It's likely this offer will feature again but it may be even cheaper amid the cost of living crisis.
There were strong game deals too. Amazon UK had Guardians of the Galaxy for £32.99, Life is Strange True Colours for under £30, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla for £22.99.
The PlayStation 5 console may come down in price for this year's Black Friday sales, and if it does it will be the first time the console has featured in the event. It's also likely that a host of games, and accessories like the headsets, gaming chairs, memory cards and more will be featured in the latest deals.
Current deals on the PlayStation 5
The PlayStation 5 was originally priced at £449.99 for the Disc console and the PS5 Digital Edition console was £359.99. The prices have flucuated though due to demand and at the moment it seems the console is still proving hard to come by at some retailers.
Argos has the PS5 Disc console for £479.99, while shoppers at Amazon can pre-order both editions of the console here. Base.com has the PS5 Disc console available in a bundle which includes the game Horizon Forbidden West (Digital game code) plus FIFA 22 (PS5), Matchpoint – Tennis Championships: Legends Edition and MX vs ATV Legends for £613.54.
Customers with BT broadband can get the PlayStation 5 Disc edition with extra controller for £538.98 or the PS5 Disc edition with an extra controller in red for £513.99. Those with EE can also get the PlayStation 5 for a similar deal here.
Game has the PlayStation 5 Disc bundle with Horizon Forbidden West game and a DualSense wireless controller in white for £589.98. The official PlayStation store also has both consoles available to buy here.
Gaming site Scan currently has the most expensive bundle up for grabs but you do get quite a bit included, the PS5 Disc console, 1TB 980 Pro SSD, DualSense controllers, Horizon Forbidden West game for £739.99.
OnBuy.com has the PS5 Digital console for a standalone price of £614.89. Finally, ShopTo has the PS5 Digital console with a Stealth gaming station and Matchpoint Tennis game for £534.85.
What we think
For gamers Black Friday is often a good day to get discounts on consoles and the latest game releases but if supply issues still continue, prices may not be that much different on the big day for the PlayStation 5.
If you're dead set on picking up a PS5 anytime soon, my advice is this: if you see a good deal and it's available, buy it.
