Players who failed age test get BCCI nod

BENGALURU: In a relief to many state associations, including the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), the BCCI on Wednesday decided to allow players to participate in the inaugural BCCI women's U-15 One-Day tournament based on birth certificate, regardless of the result of the age verification tests.

TOI on Tuesday had reported that 14 players from Karnataka and many from other state associations had failed the Tanner-Whitehouse 3 method bone tests. Many associations were left scrambling to put together teams and some were even contemplating pulling out of the event.

In a letter addressed to the state association, the office of general manager – Game development, stated, "The BCCI apex council has decided to allow girl players who have undergone TW3 test to be eligible for selection provided their documents (birth certificate and two years school certificates) are in order and they are 15 years of age or below as of September 1, 2022."

The tournament begins on Monday at various centres across the country with the teams scheduled to report at their match venues on Saturday. The KSCA is expected to announce its original team soon.
