Joe Biden has sent the Queen a message of congratulation on her Platinum Jubilee which kicked off in London earlier today.
The US President and First Lady Jill recorded a video saying Her Majesty "inspired people" with her "selfless devotion".
The first day of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations have so far seen Trooping of the Colour and a six-minute flypast over Buckingham Palace of more than 70 aircraft.
Members of the Royal Family joined the Queen on the balcony of her residence in London to watch the flypast.
Wearing sunglasses, the 96-year-old sovereign looked joyful as she surveyed the patriotic scenes, giving broad smiles as she enjoyed the aircraft display.
It was the second of two appearances from the monarch on the balcony on Thursday - the start of the special extended Jubilee weekend marking her 70-year-reign.
In his message to the Queen, Joe Biden said: "Congratulations on your Platinum Jubilee.
"For seventy years you've inspired people with your selfless devotion and service to the people United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
"Throughout your reign, the relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States has grown stronger and closer than ever."
Jill said: "Throughout the years, the joy your visits to the United States have brought Americans and your solidarity with the American people in times of tragedy, have deepened the friendship and profound connection between our countries.
"Joe and I were so touched by the generosity and welcome you showed to us when we visited you at Windsor Castle last year - during our first visit overseas as President and First Lady."
Joe continued: "On behalf of the people in the United States, we send our best wishes to you and the people around the world marking this momentous and historic occasion."
Jill concluded: "Congratulations Your Majesty, and have a wonderful Platinum Jubilee celebration."
