The director of a London dance school on Wednesday told how she was “blown away” when her pupils were invited to take part in the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.

Steppaz have been rehearsing for weeks with an energetic routine which will see them dance while BMXers pull wheelies and ride around them in a spectacular display.

The Tottenham-based group will have dozens of dancers involved in the routine.

Among the landmarks where the dancers will strut their stuff are the Mall and Buckingham Palace, as the procession of performers wends its way on the route of the Queen’s coronation 70 years ago.

Stacey McKnight, who founded the group in 2003, said being invited to take part in the pageant was a “true honour”.

She said: “We have been totally blown away. The children are really excited... It’s such an honour to have been chosen. We have been rehearsing hard and it’s looking good.

“We will dance while BMX riders go in and out, it’s a very energetic display and the children have stepped up to the challenge.” The motto of the Steppaz, which also holds drama classes and acts as a talent agency with courses all over north London, is “follow your dreams one step at a time”.

The group has children as young as three among its membership and is one of the most respected dance schools in the capital.

Ms McKnight added: “This is dream for us and we are going to enjoy every minute of it. I am so proud of the children, they really are brilliant.

“When it all comes together on the day it’s just going to be amazing. I can’t describe what this means for Steppaz. It’s a dream come true and all through hard work.”
