Plans to transform a closed down Nottingham care home into a hotel have been praised as 'brilliant'. The former Acacia Care Home on Sherwood Rise could be turned into a new 48-bed hotel, if plans are approved by Nottingham City Council.
The building was previously used as a care home, but closed in late 2022. Planning documents outlined there would also be a TV lounge, coffee shop, kitchen and salon inside the new hotel.
Local residents generally thought the conversion would be a positive development for the area. Wendy Williams, 69, who works as a translator and lives across the road from the prospective hotel building, was enthusiastic about the idea. "I think that's a brilliant choice for this area - that is probably the best possible option for the building. We thought it might be turned into student accommodation or more flats.

"It will be a lot of noise for a few months, but I think it will be worth it. There is a need for more hotel space and I don't think it would cause much nuisance and it would be very convenient."
Ms Williams, who has lived on the street for 33 years, added: "The old care home was sometimes a bit troublesome. The building looked a bit tired inside so hopefully it will get a revamp as well."
Uta Trinks, 73, a retiree who lives on nearby Albany Road, said: "It would be brilliant for it to become a new hotel. The care home had become a bit dingy and tired before it closed down, so hopefully it would be more appealing.
"It's the perfect plan for this area, as it would be very convenient for visitors but wouldn't be too noisy for neighbours.
"I think it would be a good way to look after the building in the future too." Others thought there was an excessive number of hotels in the area, but recognised returning the site to use would bring jobs and business.
Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "I think it is a really nice building but there are quite a lot of hotels in this area already. It would probably be more useful if it was returned to being a care home, because we have a lot of older and disabled people in this area.
"On the other hand I assume it would bring some jobs to the area and would probably support local businesses." Applicant Mr Gurnam Singh, applying for the plan, did not detail any changes to the outside of the former care home.
The planning application is pending consideration by Nottingham City Council.
