Plans submitted to extend Bristol Christmas Market with new attractions

New proposals have been submitted to the city council to ask for an extension to Bristol Christmas Market. If accepted, Bristol's biggest festive event would see a new market area created in Broadmead as well as more rides and food stalls.

Rel-event Productions, formerly German Events Ltd, sent the plans to Bristol City Council's planning department back in March. The Bournemouth-based events company runs a string of successful festive markets and beach bars in the UK and has managed the Bristol event for more than five years.

The new and improved Bristol Christmas Market for 2023 would see the event expand to Quakers Friars to add more rides and a huge food and drink bar. This would include a new train ride for children and another Christmas tree.

A spokesperson for Rel-event Productions said they were unable to confirm whether the plans would go ahead but said the "same high standard of quality and entertainment that they have come to expect and love about Bristol Christmas market will be continued into any additional areas".

Plans also include an expansion of the main market in Broadmead. It would see fairground rides along Merchant Street including a 15m high Ferris wheel and more children's rides. There would also be additions to the main market strip with larger chalets and new food stalls.

The spokesperson for Rel-event Productions added: "We take great pride in delivering one of the highlights of the Bristol festive calendar and are really excited about coming back to the heart of Bristol city centre this year. 2023 promises to be even better than ever, with over 50 unique stalls offering an array of traders selling seasonal delights, crafts and unique items which are perfect for those hunting for that special Christmas gift.

"There will also be a wide range of delicious food available, from traditional Bratwurst to crepes, churros and plenty of sweet treats. New for 2023 is our 15m tall Ferris wheel offering unrivalled views over the picturesque market below. We have also added Santa's magic train ride and an enchanting Magic Forest Train Station which is sure to delight visitors young and old.

"Popular favourites like the Jäger Barn and heated igloos and ski gondolas will return, along with our popular Christmas market picture frame that enables visitors to capture their memories in a way they can keep forever."

Bristol Christmas Market is one of the biggest festive attractions in the south west drawing thousands of people each year. Last year saw the addition of new private ski chalets in the Jager Barn area as well as lots more food stalls.

German Events has been approached for comment.
