Plans revealed for Manchester's tallest skyscraper

Plans have been revealed for a 71-storey building to become Manchester's tallest skyscraper.

Renaker is behind the proposals for its Great Jackson Street development.

Known as the Lighthouse, the building would overtake South Tower at Deansgate Square as the city's tallest if the plans are approved.

The proposals include a restaurant on the 70th floor, which would be UK’s tallest building outside London.

The plans have been designed by SimpsonHaugh Architects and from the next phase of the Great Jackson Street masterplan. That will see two more 47-storey towers and two 51-storey buildings constructed.

Overall, the development is expected to create 2,388 new homes.

The 71-storey tower would include 642 apartments as well as a sky pool, yoga studio, lounge, co-working spaces and a gym.

Renaker has so far completed six buildings as part of the wider masterplan, the four-tower Deansgate Square cluster, as well as Elizabeth Tower and Victoria Residence.

The Blade and Three60 buildings, which will both stand at 51-storeys high, are currently under construction while planning approval is also being sought for two more skyscrapers.
