Plans for Arsenal's 'top talent' become clear with 'priority' transfer talks scheduled

Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson will meet Mikel Arteta for transfer talks at the end of the season as he looks to establish what his future at the Emirates holds. Nelson was sent out on loan to Feyenoord for the season back in the summer transfer window and has impressed in the Netherland.

The 22-year-old has scored three goals and provided seven assists in all competitions, helping Arne Slot's team to the final of the Europa Conference League in the process too. Nelson will have one year remaining on his contract come the end of the season and what he does next remains unclear.

After arriving in Feyenoord, Slot expressed some disappointment with the youngster, revealing that he had suffered an overuse injury in training and hinting that Arsenal's sessions were not of the same intensity as his. Arteta, however, chose to take the criticism on the chin.

"First of all I think that his words were a little bit taken out of context," he told his press conference back in September. "What I can say is that we have a brilliant company called STATsports that for the last 10 or 12 years has measured intensity.

"Since that happened we have in the last three years the highest intensity training sessions ever done. Then it is about volume. This is something different, that’s why we have an incredible team, a sports science team, that I fully trust because we have great personnel there and they look after that all the time.

"Hopefully Reiss is going to be fit and no more injuries and he can do well because he is a top talent."

But while Nelson has undoubtedly improved over the course of the season, his future remains unclear. Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that he plans to hold talks with Arteta ahead of the summer transfer window.

The transfer expert also revealed that a number of English clubs are interested in buying the player permanently while Feyenoord would like to take him back on loan for a second spell.

"Reiss Nelson will discuss with Mikel Arteta to understand his Arsenal future soon," Romano wrote on Twitter. "Feyenoord want to keep him on loan for one more season, as they can’t afford a permanent move. There’s interest from English clubs to buy Nelson but priority will be to understand AFC plans."
