Plans announced to convert former gym in 'nice little town'

Neighbours in a 'nice little town' have welcomed plans to convert a former gym into new homes. Proposals have been put forward to create a house in multiple occupation (HMO) and three flats at the former Intrim Health Studios in Long Eaton.

The building in Beaconsfield Street hasn't been used in a number of years and shoppers say they are pleased to know it will be put to use. In March this year, plans were put forward to Erewash Borough Council for the site to be converted to a 10 bedroom HMO and commercial retail unit.

However, those plans were withdrawn on May 3 and new plans were resubmitted on May 17. “There’s a lot of people that need a place to live, I think it would be a good idea,” said Darren Shackleton.
