A Nottinghamshire council has put forward plans to build a new 'health hub'. Mansfield District Council has submitted plans for the development of a new fitness centre at Carr Lane, Warsop.
The concept is to create a 'health hub' that meets the needs of the local community with a new 8 x 15m swimming pool, as well as providing activity space and fitness facilities. In addition, the proposal includes community IT facilities, meeting rooms and a café/community kitchen.
The site is currently used as parking for playing fields and an adjacent games area. This land is owned by the council.

Mansfield District Council previously stressed the new facilities were "not a leisure centre" and would "therefore not [be] a replacement" for the Meden Sports Centre, which was closed in 2018. The proposed hub was devised as the result of a consultation into the needs of Warsop residents after the Meden Sports Centre's closure.
According to the planners behind the project, it aims to encourage physical activity within the local community by providing a place that is easily accessible, friendly, available for all, allows social interactions and co-locates a number of services within one venue.
The scheme would move the games area north to create space for the new facility. The proposed car park would have 51 spaces, including four disabled spaces and seven motorcycle spaces.
A pre-application response included recommendations from Nottinghamshire Police to reduce the likelihood of criminal activity. The fresh proposals include placing low level lighting bollards next to the existing pathway between the avenue of trees, artificial sports lighting, and CCTV.
In a planning document, Enabl, on behalf on Mansfield District Council, said: "Overall, the proposed development would deliver valuable economic, social and environmental benefits such that would deliver sustainable development. It would make a valued contribution to the offer within the locality and support employment opportunities within the area.
"In considering the planning balance on the proposals, the scheme has been evidenced to providing a sustainable development for a sector of society with specific needs such that the benefits of allowing the proposal would outweigh any adverse impacts which may arise as a result." The planning application is pending consideration by Mansfield District Council.
