Plan stalls for 56 houses and flats surrounding 19-storey Sneinton tower block

Plans for houses and a block of flats around a 19-storey tower in Sneinton have been delayed. The proposals for land surrounding Burrows Court, which outlined 15 houses and a block of 41 flats, were withdrawn just before they were due to be discussed by Nottingham City Council at a planning committee on Wednesday, May 18.

It is unknown what the reason for the withdrawal is, however it proves to be another minor setback since plans were first submitted in 2017. The dwellings would be built around the newly-renovated 130-flat tower off Windmill Lane.

Nine houses facing the road would be three-storeys high and have three bedrooms, as well as a lounge, kitchen and bathrooms. Six of the houses would be two-storey with two bedrooms, with all houses having one off-street parking space.

The new three-storey block of flats would be built on top of the existing 107-space car park, with twelve being two bed and twenty-nine being one bed.

In March, locals told Nottinghamshire Live of their surprise when people moved in to the long-time empty block late last year following a renovation. Neighbours said that a "sudden" influx of people, who they claim to be refugees, took place at the end of 2021.

The current application was submitted in 2017 and has been through a number of iterations and some periods of dormancy. Plans submitted on behalf of developer Landmark Capital Investment had been recommended by planning officers to be approved by councillors at the previous planning committee meeting on Wednesday, April 20, but the final approval was postponed over a number of issues.
