Plan for new affordable homes in Leeds city centre - just five minutes from the train station

A new plot of land has come onto the market in Leeds, in a bid to create affordable housing as part of Leeds City Council's sustainable regeneration scheme.

The plot in Meadow Lane, Leeds, sits as a historic gateway to the city centre and is part of a new multi-million pound city centre green space. The 0.18 hectare plot is five minutes from Leeds train station and the council say they are looking for proposals, specifically from those looking to build affordable homes.

The council is seeking proposals that offer predominantly residential use, with an above policy compliant level of affordable housing, including a unit mix in line with Core Strategy requirements, whilst offering market value for the site.

Councillor James Lewis, leader of Leeds City Council said: “South Bank, Leeds has taken huge strides in terms of regeneration of the area over the last decade, from both the regeneration of key heritage and industrial assets, to bringing forward the largest city centre green space in the UK, and in turn creating well connected and sustainable neighbourhoods.

“The city is going through momentous change and the council is committed to continuing to help unlock major commercial and residential development across the South Bank and the centre of Leeds. This is one example of where we have been able to release a prime piece of city centre land, for better use and to continue to build upon this excellent and vibrant community.”

Cushman & Wakefield are marketing the site on behalf of the council. Offers for the space are invited through an informal tender basis, which provides a deadline for bids on the site, these are to be submitted by 12 noon on Thursday 4th May.

The site is currently surrounded by a mix of retail, leisure office and apartment accomodations. The Meadow Lane greenspace was recently built costing £3.25 million and will be part of the plot, when complete, the building on the site will have a comfortable seat facing the city centre and act as the gateway to the newly-created city park
