A pizzeria has been hit a poor food hygiene rating in St Helens following an inspection.
An inspection by the Food Standards Agency found that Fingerpost Pizzeria "requires major improvement". The Higher Parr Street restaurant was slapped with a one star rating, placing it among the lowest ratings in the borough.
Along with the pizzeria, three other takeaways in St Helens were given one star in 2022. Fingerpost Pizzeria joins Samerah Balti in Newton-le-Willows, Bold Equestrian Club's café, and Tony's Spicy Chicken on Baldwin Street.

Inspectors judge the premises on several categories. Firstly is Hygienic food handling: essentially monitoring hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage. Next is Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene.
And finally is management of food safety: system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
