Pizza restaurant closes for the second time in less than a year in fresh blow to Ayrshire hospitality scene

An Ayrshire restaurant has closed for the second time in less than a year.

It was announced last week that Oven has been closed down for good by the eaterie's owner.

It comes nine months after the pizzeria's parent company, Firewood Restaurants, went bust with thousands of pounds of debt.

The Vennel Street venue started operating again in August last year after a period of being closed.

Martin Boyle, the restaurant's owner, said that he was gutted for staff who fought through the hard times with the business.

Mr Boyle posted on Facebook: "Sad to announce that after 3 years of trying to build a business locally, we had the difficult decision to close it down.

"It’s been some journey and gutted for all the team who battled through the hard times with us.

"To all of you who we know supported us week in and week out, without you we wouldn’t have made it this far with the continuous hurdles we faced.

"Our sincere thanks and you’ll no longer be spammed by me with pizzas on your page.

"What good is an idea if it remains an idea? Try. Experiment. Iterate. Fail. Try again…"

Oven opened in 2019 and sold fresh pizzas, burgers and fried chicken.

In the wake of the closure, Oven's Facebook page has been deleted.
