'Pity' - Lautaro Martinez shows frustration at Alexis Sanchez after Liverpool knock-out Inter Milan

Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez appeared to be frustrated with team-mate Alexis Sanchez after the match against Liverpool.

The Reds progressed to the Champions League quarter-finals despite losing 1-0 to the Serie A outfit on the night.

Jurgen Klopp’s side won the tie 2-1 on aggregate, following a 2-0 victory at the San Siro, but faced a nervy end to the second leg at Anfield thanks to Martinez’s goal.

The Argentina international put Inter 1-0 up shortly after the hour mark seemingly to set up a tense finish.

But that changed just two minutes later when former Arsenal and Manchester United forward Sanchez was shown a second yellow card for a challenge on Fabinho, adding to the booking he got in the first half for a tackle on Thiago Alcantara.

With the tie just one Inter goal away from extra-time, Martinez expressed his disappointment over his side exiting the competition.

He also made reference to Sanchez’s red card, which he described as a “pity”.

"We did what we wanted to, we showed character, the desire to go through and when we took the lead in a difficult arena with so much enthusiasm,” Martinez told Sky Italia.

"It’s a pity to then go down to 10 men, because these are the things that can make the difference. We have to turn the page straight away and try to look forward.

"We are out of the Champions League, we have the Coppa Italia, we have Serie A and must try to do our best, learn from these mistakes and try to keep improving."
