Pitta Fan review: New Leeds takeaway serving monster wraps put to the test

New Greek street food venue Pitta Fan offers up pitta club sandwiches, gyros, pitta wraps, burgers, salads and more authentic dishes.

The menu of the Roundhay Road, Oakwood takeaway, which opened at the end of 2022, has a wide variety of starters to pick from. This made selection a difficult process with so many good options on offer.

I was really torn by the chance of trying some very tasty sounding food, like the feta cheese with honey or loukaniko and halloumi, to name but a few examples.

There was also a lot of great pastries on offer, the Loukanikopita - Greek sausage roll – was a tough one to pass up on.

For starters, I ended up going for the traditional dolmades, vine leaves stuffed with flavoured rice, mint and lemon juice, served with tzatziki and salad. And a pastry, the Spanakopita, filled with spinach and feta cheese.

The dolmades were generously portioned and had a sharp piquant tang, presented tastefully over a bed of salad. The Spanakopita looked like a giant triangle, it had the appearance of a Greek-style Cornish pastry. The cheese was soft and bland, plus I didn’t pick up too strongly on the spinach.

Next up for my main course, I ordered fries with parmesan and the triple decker pitta wrap, which comes with chicken gyros, falafel and halloumi cheese wrapped in pitta bread, with tzatziki, onions, tomatoes and chips – quite the mighty feast.

Unfortunately, the parmesan fries came cold so weren’t overly enjoyable to eat – whether this is the fault of the takeaway or the delivery driver, who could say? Fortunately, the pitta wrap did not disappoint. It was an absolute monster.

The gyros had the huge mass of chicken, falafel and halloumi wounds around the pocket of chips. The chicken was delicate and juicy to eat, the falafel was moist within and perfectly crisp and the halloumi had a sharp flavour. It all serendipitously came together, with the sauces and the vegetables, to make the ultimate wrap.
