September Amavasya 2026 date: The question of whether Pithori Amavasya will be observed on September 9 or September 10 has left many devotees checking different calendars and Panchang listings. This year, however, the Amavasya tithi begins only on September 10 at 10:33 am and continues until 8:56 am on September 11, according to the New Delhi timings listed by Drik Panchang. Therefore, Pithori Amavasya will be observed on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
The confusion is mainly because the Amavasya tithi stretches into the following morning. As a result, some rituals associated with bathing, charity and ancestral observances may fall on September 11, even though the principal Pithori Vrat and observance are associated with September 10.
