Pirates to Call Up Former No. 1 MLB Draft Pick, per Report

With the team fighting in a tight National League Central race, the Pirates will soon receive help in the form of one of the organization’s most exciting young prospects.

Pittsburgh is calling up catcher Henry Davis from Triple A to make his big-league debut in Monday’s home game against the Cubs, according to Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The move comes as the team fights to climb back over .500 following a sluggish stretch that’s tempered some excitement after a strong start to the season.

While no announcement has been made, the Pirates hinted at a Davis promotion with a caption-less tweet of a close-up photo of his face.

Davis, 23, was the No. 1 pick in the 2021 draft after starring at Louisville for his college career. He began this season at Double A and earned a promotion to Triple A earlier this month. Davis has 24 home runs in 114 career minor league games, with a .276/.404/.523 slash line and 19 stolen bases.
