The Mirror’s Political Editor Pippa Crerar made an appearance on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday to discuss the likely contents of the hotly anticipated Sue Gray report into alleged Covid parties at Downing Street.
With the Prime Minister's political future hanging in the balance, Pippa chatted to co-hosts Susanna Reid and Adil Ray to discuss the aftermath of No10's 'party gate' scandal.
Pippa previously reported that Downing Street officials have handed over photos of parties, including images of Mr Johnson and wine bottles, to Sue Gray’s investigators.
She said on the ITV programme: "The bottom line is there's been much speculation about what may be in or what may not be in Sue Gray's report that she's due to hand to No 10 imminently - possibly as soon as today.
"But none of us actually know - apart from Sue Gray and a very small number of cabinet office officials.
"I think what we are expecting is a narrative form of events - she has spoken to all sorts of people and seen pictures and text messages - and she will put her findings in the report but not necessarily the pictures, the text messages, the emails themselves."
The Mirror’s Political Editor said there will be "some concern" about naming certain individuals in the report, such as junior civil servants.
She added: "There has generally been a mischaracterisation of what this report can do - the suggestion has been it can present some kind of verdict on the Prime Minister.
"It is not for Sue Gray to do that and she hasn't done that in previous enquiries that she's led."
Boris Johnson could also face police questioning over the scandal, after Scotland Yard launched an investigation.
Met Police chief Dame Cressida Dick confirmed officers will look into “a number of events” where Covid lockdown rules were said to have been broken in Whitehall.
This comes after claims emerged that the Prime Minister had been thrown a surprise birthday party during the first coronavirus lockdown - despite indoor social events being banned.
Mrs Johnson allegedly led the staff in a chorus of happy birthday while the PM was presented with a cake, before tucking into picnic food from M&S.
Downing Street conceded that staff “gathered briefly” in the Cabinet Room after a meeting, but a minister defended the PM by saying that he was “ambushed with cake”.
Earlier in the programme Adil pointed to an empty chair as no ministers had shown up on Wednesday’s show to address the birthday party controversy.
Adil joked: “If any government ministers are around, we do have some cake over here if you’d like to come in. We can ambush you with a slice of cake.
“Some cheese and wine are around as well, so lots of reasons for you to perhaps pop in if you would like to.”
Earlier in the programme, Susanna joked: “We will find out which fridge they're in and get back to you.”
