Pilot spots red glow below clouds that people believe 'could be the end of time'

A pilot has spotted an eerie red glow below the clouds that people believe "could be the end of time".

The spooky video footage was captured over the Atlantic Ocean last Friday and has certainly got people talking over on social media.

Whether it really does mark the end of time or not remains to be seen, but it's certainly sparked debate and confusion among many.

Some have likened it to a scene out of Netflix's hit series Stanger Things. For those that haven't seen the American sci-fi horror drama, it documents a group of friends who witness supernatural forces and secret government plots.

Some believe the footage looks apocalyptic, with one Reddit user saying: "Finally! At least if the worlds ending we get to see some cool kaiju action."

A second agreed, adding: "If I'm not wrong, the first DOOM game was set in 2022, so this is it. There comes the demons. There is the end..."

Others, meanwhile, believe the fiery red glow is instead a large fishing boat that's using red lights to attract fish, as reported by the MailOnline.

Saury fishing, traditionally found in the Pacific Ocean, uses huge LED lights on fishing boats to attract the fish.

This is what allows them to be scooped up in nets, but whether this is actually what's behind the red glow remains to be seen.

There is also a type of Atlantic saury that is found from the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, from Canada to Bermuda, with the ships used to catch fish using hundreds of red lights around the perimeter.

Often, LED is the preferred option for fishing boats and this is largely due to its its higher efficiency and lower weight.

However, the fishing boat could be using another lighting solution like high-intensity discharge (HID), as one Reddit user explains: "Maybe fishing vessels have never clustered so much to concentrate so much light?

"Three possible scenarios. 1. Fish populations down to small concentrations. 2. Chinese fishing boats have fished out the Pacific and are now factory fishing in the Atlantic. 3. Atlantic-based fishing boats have adopted China's factory fishing strategy. None of these are good outcomes. Good luck to those fish."

This isn't the only encounter that's been documented before.

In 2014, a pilot and his co-pilot flew over glowing red clouds south of the Russian peninsula Kamchatka during the flight of a Boeing 747-8 from Hong Kong to Anchorage, Alaska.

Dutch pilot JPC van Heijst told PBase how they spotted an intense flash of light like a lightning bolt, directed vertically up in the distance, five hours into the 10-hour flight.

Some have compared the eerie footage to a scene from Netflix's Stranger Things (pictured) (Netflix)

This was then followed by a deep red and orange glow 20 minutes later, and there seemed to be no rhyme or reason as to why it happened.

After all, there were no thunderstorms on their route or weather-radar, suggesting the lightning did not originate in a storm, with the pilot adding: "The closer we got, the more intense the glow became, illuminating the clouds and sky below us in a scary orange glow, in a part of the world where there was supposed to be nothing but water.

"The only cause of this red glow that we could think of was the explosion of a huge volcano just underneath the surface of the ocean, about 30 minutes before we overflew that exact position."
