Pilot forced to slam on brakes in near miss with truck at major US airport

  • A Frontier Airlines jet narrowly avoided a collision with two trucks that crossed its path on a taxiway at Los Angeles International Airport late Wednesday.
  • The pilot was forced to slam on the brakes to prevent impact, expressing significant alarm over the near-miss, which he described as the closest he had ever seen.
  • "It happened so fast," the pilot said in audio posted by ATC.com. "I have to go check on the flight attendants in the back. It was real close, closest I've ever seen."
  • No injuries were reported in the incident at LAX, which is currently under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
  • The near-collision involved ground vehicles on a service road that are typically expected to yield to aircraft, differing from a recent deadly crash at LaGuardia where an air traffic controller cleared a fire truck onto a runway.
