Pilot applauded after dealing with passenger who dashed for door to get off first

Many travellers will be familiar with how eager some people can be to get off and make a mad dash to be first when the plane finally lands and comes to a halt. But according to a post on Reddit, an aircraft captain came up with the perfect response to deal with this when one woman tried to make it off quickly.

In the post, written by an anonymous witness, the seatbelt lights were still on and they claim the woman decided to ‘not hear’ the requests from the cabin crew to get back to her seat. They wrote: “Right when we landed a Karen in the back unbuckled and darted to the front of the plane to get off first. She did not make any eye contact and felt that she was special.

“I’m talking about going from the very last seat on the plane, down the whole row and past first class. basically standing at the little kitchen thing in the front. All this time the seat belt sign was still on and we were still rolling down the runway. The flight crew had asked her to return to her seat until we reached the gate but she was not even responding.”

As reported by the Mirror, the person said that everyone was desperate to leave after an eight hour flight - so the move sparked some resentment among the passengers. The writer continued: “Suddenly the captain announced we had a special guest on board and he will be coming out to greet after we were settled at the gate.

"The Karen stood there awkwardly until we did the whole, rolling into the gate and whatever planes do when they land for about 15-20 mins... Eventually the captain came out and asked the lady to please move back a little to get to his special guest, then a little more. Then a little more.

"He was looking from row to row trying to find a specific person. Everyone is watching and looking around to see who it could be. Finally as they approached the rear of the plane he asked her to sit for a second while he grabbed the intercom at the rear of the plane.

"Ladies and gentleman Id like to announce our special guest sitting in seat 42C. Lets giver her a round of applause. The whole plane with wild with laughter and applause. I loved every moment of that.”

Reddit users loved the story as many flocked to the comment section. An old F replied: “Good ending, but I was hoping that the special guest was a federal marshal coming on board to arrest the Karen for refusing to follow safety-related commands given by members of the flight crew.”

Cheeses_greist added: “Yeah, I was hoping this story was going there. This ending is good, too.” But some were more sympathetic. MasterOfTheAbyss explained: “Sometimes when a plane is late getting in there are people that have a connecting flight that will be very tight to make.

"They need to get off the plane quickly to have any chance at their connection. The best way to handle that is to inform the stewardess and they can make a general announcement. Of course sometimes people all ignore that announcement and block the aisle for those people anyway.”

BrokenCankle agreed: “Absolutely. I’m not defending her actions but can relate to the anxiety. I had a 30 minute window for connections between flights but my first flight was late getting in. I thought for sure we would miss the flight. We grabbed our bags out of the over head and ran the minute the doors opened.

"We got off and our connecting flight was literally the next door over so we walked 6 feet and got on and they closed the door behind us. We made it by seconds. The only reason we did was because we were sat at the front of the plane and the terminal was 6 feet away. Had we been in the back we would have watched our other flight leave.”
