Piers Morgan has said he reached out to Sarah Ferguson after her cancer diagnosis, but her response left the presenter floored. The former ITV Good Morning Britain star has revealed he sent the royal a text after her diagnosis.
The star has opened up on the issue, and said he was "glad" that she had decided to put herself before others. "Just seen the news," I wrote, "so sorry you’ve been through such a scary time - sending you love and support, and continued success with your treatment," the Piers said: ""Time to heal and nurture me now!" Sarah replied, minutes later. "Hopefully caught in time x thank you," reports Birmingham Live.
Speaking to the sun, Piers said: "It was the first time I’d ever heard her speak about the need to put herself before others, and it took a life-threatening moment to do it." The TalkTV star added: "I’m very glad she is though, because the world’s a better place with a healthy vibrant Sarah Ferguson in it."
She reportedly left the King Edward VII Hospital in Marylebone, central London - which has treated the royal family for decades, on Sunday and is said to be recovering with her family at Windsor. Before going to hospital, she spoke about her diagnosis on her new podcast Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah, which is released on Monday.
A spokesman for the duchess said: "Sarah, Duchess of York was recently diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer detected at a routine mammogram screening. She was advised she needed to undergo surgery which has taken place successfully.
"The duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good. She is now recuperating with her family. The duchess wants to express her immense gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days.
"She is also hugely thankful to the staff involved in the mammogram which identified her illness, which was otherwise symptom free, and believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening." Ann O'Flynn, head of information and support at the charity Macmillan Cancer Support, said: "We're saddened to hear of Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York's, recent breast cancer diagnosis.
"We know that hearing the words 'you've got cancer' can turn people's worlds upside down in a heartbeat. Macmillan is here to do whatever it takes to support everybody living with cancer, from the moment they're diagnosed.
