Piers Morgan 'storms off' after heated clash with Lorraine Kelly

Piers Morgan jokingly "stormed off" once again after he and Lorraine Kelly became involved in a heated clash on the ITV show.

The pair discussed a range of topics - from his interview with Donald Trump to trans issues - with some of his remarks visibly frustrating Lorraine.

On the subject of trans athletes competing, Lorraine questioned why he didn't have more guests supporting the move, to which he replied that it was "common sense".

He declared: "I know most people agree with me."

It was the first time in over a year that Piers has appeared on ITV daytime since his very abrupt exit from Good Morning Britain.

Piers quit GMB, after co-hosting the show with Susanna Reid since 2015, after bosses called for him to apologise for remarks he made about Meghan Markle.

Following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which Meghan claimed that a royal voiced "concerns" over Archie's skin colour and that she felt suicidal but wasn't able to get help, Piers accused her of lying as he fiercely lashed out at her on Good Morning Britain.

Going on to speak about any regrets he had about leaving GMB, he said: "I only regret that ITV tried to get me to apologise for something that I believed in... I didn't believe [Meghan] then, I don't believe her now."

Lorraine then attempted to move the subject onto the Ofcom ruling, which vindicated ITV following a record-number of complaints made about his remarks.

As she tried to explain that, due to Susanna Reid and others showing balance, they didn't flout the rules.

However, Piers said that he did "not agree with that".

"They said it was a chilling infringement to my free speech," Piers fumed of ITV. "I didn't want to leave... I was told to apologise."

As Lorraine tried to get the interview back on track by a hyped up Piers, she said that while some claimed he had been cancelled, he clearly wasn't as he had his new show.

But he retorted: "I've been cancelled from Good Morning Britain because I wasn't able to stay!"

"You're fired up for this! But there's no one going to be by your side tempering you," Lorraine said, referring to Susanna's absence.

After Piers jokingly asked if she wanted to be his TV wife, he insisted that he wanted all types of views on his new show.

"I agree with you on some things and I vehemently disagree with you on other things," Lorraine said. "Isn't it going to be quite a right wing channel you're on?"

Piers insisted it wasn't as he declared: "I won't cancel people for being conservatives."

Lorraine quipped: "How long do you think it's going to be 'til you get the elbow? Because you've been sacked from so many things."

He eventually admitted that he had had a great time with ITV, which included working with Life Stories and Susanna Reid.

However, Lorraine insisted that it was his fault that it all came to an end: "It was your fault! You walked out!"

"I didn't," Piers replied.

"You did," Lorraine hit back.

Piers then remarked that he "chose not to stay listening to that idiot", referring to Alex Beresford, before jokingly walking off.

After a Twitter battle with weatherman Alex , Piers called him to appear on the show the next day to debate the topic.

However, a furious row erupted on set, which led to Piers storming off set as Alex called his behaviour "diabolical".

Recently, Piers claimed that he would have slapped his co-star if he hadn't walked off.

Referring to the shocking moment Will Smith smacked Chris Rock live on air, he tweeted in March: "So much snowflakey bullsh*t re Oscars smackdown. You can think Will Smith wrong to slap Chris Rock but still understand why he did it if he thought - incorrectly - Rock was deliberately mocking his wife’s alopecia in front of a gazillion people. I’d have probably done the same."

A rather sceptical follower shared a screen grab of the famous moment he walked off GMB and tweeted: "Course you would!"

Piers quote tweeted the remark and wrote: "Ironically, I walked out to stop myself slapping him…"

*Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV
