Piers Morgan sends Kate Garraway heartwarming message following Derek Draper documentary

Piers Morgan has sent former colleague and pal Kate Garraway a sweet message after her latest documentary aired on Tuesday evening.

Piers, 56, worked alongside Kate on Good Morning Britain and took to Twitter on Wednesday to let her know how proud he is of her as she continues the round-the-clock care for husband Derek Draper as he continues to battle the effects of Covid-19.

After catching up on the documentary titled Caring for Derek - a follow-up of last year's Finding Derek - Piers wrote: "This was such unbelievably heart-rending television.

"Keep battling, Kate - you and your remarkable family are a towering testament to the power of stoicism, courage & never-give-up spirit in the face of appalling adversity. Love you all."

Fans quickly took to the post the share their own messages of support, with one user commenting: "It was heartbreaking to watch. What a fighter Derek is and also Kate. Who ever watch it must have not had a dry eye.

"Keep going Kate and your lovely family. We are all behind you. God bless you all."

Piers' comments echo Kate's other Good Morning Britain co-hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard.

The duo told how they were "proud" of the 54-year-old after the documentary aired.

Speaking on the morning show on Wednesday, Susanna called Kate "extraordinary" after what the family have been through the past two years.

She said: "We are so proud of you Kate, and of course Darcey and Billy and Derek as well, because Derek is the one going through it isn’t he.

"My goodness, the care that family and Derek’s family give him is absolutely extraordinary. We love you all. Sending you lots of love this morning."

Like Piers, Ben took to Twitter to share his message of support, writing: "I don’t have the words to describe how proud + inspired I am by my wonderful friend @kategarraway.

"It’s such a tough personal story but one she’s sharing for those that don’t have the voice. I am so lucky to call her a friend, even if I have to endlessly tidy up after her."

Former political spin doctor Derek was hospitalised in March 2020 after contracting Covid.

He was then placed into an induced coma by doctors and spent 374 days in hospital before coming home in April 2021.

He is currently being looked after by Kate and other carers and the presenter recently revealed Derek sleeps 16 to 20 hours a day and would die if he was left unaided for 72 hours.

Speaking on the documentary, Kate explained the amount of strain that has now become her daily life.

She revealed: "People are really kind and say I’m an inspiration, but I’m really struggling.

"And I think it’s important for people to know that, because I’m sure they’re struggling in their life too, in whatever way."
