Piers Morgan has strongly implied he is ready to enter the world of politics.
The former Good Morning Britain presenter took to social media in the wake of Liz Truss' resignation to seemingly offer his services to the country - telling his 7.9million Twitter followers has it may well be 'time' for him to enter 10 Downing Street, complete with a preview of how he could look in power.
Piers joined comedian Joe Lycett in reacting to the news this afternoon that the Prime Minister will step down from her position, following a disastrous 45 days in power, with multiple U-turns and gaffes marring her brief reign as the Conservative Party leader.
Just hours before Truss delivered her statement at 1.30pm today, Piers took to Twitter to urge the politician to step down, writing: "You’re making Britain an absolute laughing stock @trussliz - put your country before your pathetic attempt at self-preservation, and resign."
Following Truss' resignation, the TalkTV presenter declared: "It’s over. Liz Truss is resigning and will become shortest-serving Prime Minister in British history. What an absolute shambles."
Piers then urged Rishi Sunak to 'seize the moment' and succeed Truss as Prime Minister - telling the man who lost to Truss in the last leadership election: "These are serious times and we need a serious & competent Prime Minister."
But after backing the former Chancellor of the Exchequer for the top job in British politics, Piers then seemed to suggest he might be a worthy candidate to rule Great Britain one day.
Sharing an old picture of himself of himself outside 10 Downing Street, the TalkTV presenter told his followers: "It may be time."
"If America can have [ Donald Trump ] then UK can definitely have @piersmorgan," one of the broadcaster's fans wrote in response, with another adding: ""F*** it how much worse can it get."
Others were less excited at the prospect of Piers becoming PM one day, with one telling the star: "We don’t need another court jester real leadership not bullsh*t is what’s required."
"think we'd prefer larry the cat," another quipped under Piers' tweet, with one of the many more negative responses reading: "You couldn’t take pressure on GM TV [Good Morning Britain] you couldn’t run a bath."
Earlier this month, Question Time viewers found themselves agreeing with the controversial presenter, as he appeared on the BBC show to slam the Prime Minister and the Tory government.
Piers was the first to offer his opinions on the episode of Question Time broadcasted shortly after then-Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng announced another U-turn, after a member of the studio audience asked the panel: "How long do you think Liz Truss will be able to continue as Prime Minister?"
Laughing, the TV presenter replied: "Tonight? I think she's done. I think if you come in at this stage, two years until an election, with the polling as catastrophic as it is - and it's a direct result of the first thing you do for the country - and you play casino politics with the nation's economy, putting it all on red then it comes up black, and [the pound plummets].... I'm not sure how she has the brass neck to stay in the job.
"Along with her Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng. It's not that I'm pro or anti the Conservative Party - this is supposed to be the party of fiscal responsibility but it couldn't be anything but the opposite."
