Piers Morgan returning to ITV for first time since quitting over Meghan remarks

Piers Morgan is set to return to ITV for the first time since abruptly quitting over comments he made about Meghan Markle.

The former GMB presenter, 57, accused the Duchess of Sussex of lying during her Oprah Winfrey interview - prompting bosses to tell him to apologise.

After storming off set following a debate with weatherman Alex Beresford about Meghan, he refused to apologise and resigned that evening.

However, over a year has passed and it looks like Piers might finally be mending bridges with ITV as he is set to appear on Lorraine tomorrow.

But he couldn't resist a dig at GMB's ratings decline since he left the programme.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: "BREAKING: I’ll be returning to ITV tomorrow for first time since the Markle Debacle… live & definitely uncensored on ⁦@lorraine with the fabulous ⁦@reallorraine - should be fun… (may even storm back onto ⁦@GMB while I wait, & get those ratings back up.)"

Fans were quick to respond, with one writing: "Hopefully Alex will be doing the weather, now that would be a good watch."

While another commented: "Please do it lol."

A third wrote: "Not even bothered watching it since you left. No point. All my family are the same. They’ve all switched off too. We’ll be tuning in tomorrow though."

It comes after Piers' new sleek set was revealed - which features a British TV first.

Taking to Twitter to show off the new set, TalkTV wrote: "Piers Morgan's new studio creates a multi-angle 360-degree set and a stand-out LED archway, never before seen on British TV news.

"TalkTV launches on 25 April! 7pm The News Desk, 8pm Piers Morgan Uncensored, 9pm The Talk."

Piers recently described his Good Morning Britain exit as 'a farce' and is 'delighted' it ended up happening.

"The whole thing was a farce," he said, "I'm delighted that as a result we've ended up with a whole network which is now dedicated to preventing that kind of farce from recurring. You shouldn't be shamed, vilified or cancelled for having an opinion."

He branded his GMB exit a 'farce' (PA)

Back in March, Piers said he should have never been "forced" to leave GMB over the expression of his "honestly held opinion".

"A year ago today, I was forced to leave a job I loved, at the peak of its success, for having the audacity to express an honestly held opinion," he said at the time, "This shouldn’t happen in any democracy supposedly built on the principles of free speech and freedom of expression. I’m delighted to now be returning to live television with a new daily show.

"Its main purpose is to cancel the Cancel Culture which has infected societies around the world. I want it to be a platform for lively debate, news-making interviews, and that increasingly taboo three-letter word: fun. I also want it to annoy all the right people."
