Piers Morgan marks the one year anniversary he stormed off GMB

Controversial television host Piers Morgan, took to Instagram this morning to mark the anniversary of his departure from ITV's Good Morning Britain with a screenshot of his exit.

Following a heated debate with Alex Beresford on the topic of Meghan Markle, Piers subsequently got up and left his position live on television, leaving Alex and co-host Susanna Reid in shock.

The debate was on Meghan's wedding and the criticism she faced in the media following the event, with Alex claiming it to be "damaging."

The conversation turned personal, with Alex saying: "I understand that you don't like Meghan Markle.

"You've made it clear a number of times on this programme, a number of times, and I understand that you've got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or that you had one and she cut you off.

"She's entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don't think she has, but yet you continue to trash her."

Visibly bothered by the weatherman's comments, Piers responded: "OK, I'm done with this.

"You can trash me, mate, but not on my own show. See you later. Sorry. Can't do this."

The 56-year old briefly returned to the set to say: "I don't think these are issues that we can't overcome.

"What we need to do, Alex, is talk about them in a civilised manner given that we work on the same show as the same team. You were launching to a pretty personal derogatory monologue at one of your colleagues."

Having made comments on the situation in the past, Piers took to Instagram to share his current views on the day, writing: "A year ago today, I went for a little stroll… and in the words of Edith Piaf, je ne regrette rien! #LongWalkToFreedomOfSpeech"

Commenting on the post was his son, Spencer Morgan, who replied: "The moment morning TV died"

Another commenter said: "Worst mistake in television history letting you go Piers, so missed every morning x"

A third wrote: "Alex was out of order that day simple as that no need whatsoever he was just jumping on a bandwagon."

The screenshot of his exit was posted to his 1.8 million followers with the top comments swaying favourably in his defence, notably saying how much he is missed.

Following his departure from GMB, Piers joined NewsUK's TalkTV.
