Piers Morgan furiously slams US government for failure over mass shooting crisis

Piers Morgan has blasted America as 'backward' after as shocking figures surrounding mass shooting in the US have emerged.

The former Good Morning Britain host, 57, took to Twitter on Wednesday to slam the US government for refusing to impose strict gun laws as mass shooting continue to occur on a weekly basis across America.

"America is now in the grip of a Groundhog Day mass shooting narrative: deranged young white male loner, known to cops for erratic or threatening behaviour, legally buys semi-automatic guns and kills a lot of people. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat," Piers fumed as he shared his thoughts on the ongoing crisis.

Piers' comments come as terrifying statistics reveal that there have have been gun killings in 43 of the 50 US states since the harrowing Texas school shooting in Uvalde.

More than 650 incidents have resulted in 730 deaths since 24 May, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive.

Of those who died, 33 were died were children, more than the total number who died in Uvalde, and 66 teenagers lost their lives.

The figures provide the troubling context for politicians on Capitol Hill as they struggle to find common ground over America's gun laws.

Following Piers' thought-provoking tweet, his followers flocked to share their own thoughts as one Twitter user branded America as 'backwards'.

"Sick of reading about American gun massacres. For a first world country, it’s so backwards," they fumed.

"You forgot one step: 'national media gives the loner the national attention they desired by their actions," someone else suggested.

Elsewhere, another follower replied: "The problem isn’t guns, the problem is what’s making them do this. Nobody wants to focus on that because they can’t gain politically."

"It sounds like the 'new normal'. We have to get used to it. Just cynical at this point," someone else wrote.
