Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang triple Chelsea reunion can help Wesley Fofana amid £75m transfer

Chelsea completed the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona on deadline day, seeing the Gabonese striker reunite with former boss Thomas Tuchel.

Aubameyang returns to the Premier League after just nine months away following his January transfer exit from London rivals Arsenal. The 33-year-old striker offers a reliable goalscoring record, something Chelsea sorely need right now with Kai Havertz failing to impress in attack after blanking in all five of the Blues' opening Premier League fixtures.

Tuchel revealed his joy at being able to coach Aubameyang once again, after the pair enjoyed a successful time together at Borussia Dortmund. It's not just the Chelsea boss that the Gabon international will reunite with, as Christian Pulisic also played alongside Aubameyang at Dortmund as well as new summer signing Wesley Fofana having idolised the 33-year-old during his time at Saint-Etienne.

Fofana was an up and coming prospect in the Ligue 1 outfit's youth system as Aubameyang began to make a name for himself with some impressive performances in the French top-flight. Following the Gabonese striker's move to Stamford Bridge, his former side Saint-Etienne posted a picture of Aubameyang and Fofana during their time with the Ligue 1 outfit.

The 33-year-old forward was the young centre-back's idol growing up in France and now the pair have reunited after both completing moves to west London. Tuchel will be hoping Aubameyang's experience and leadership qualities can rub off on Fofana, with the talented centre-back expected to come straight into the team to face West Ham this weekend.

Fofana could benefit massively from the 33-year-old during his time at Stamford Bridge with the French defender set to play a crucial role in Chelsea's future for many years after signing a six-year deal with the Blues. Thiago Silva's career continues to draw to a close, whilst Kalidou Koulibaly has also entered his peak years, meaning Fofana will need to learn what he can from his teammates before becoming Chelsea's no.1 choice centre-back.

Gary Lineker has previously labelled the 21-year-old defender as 'the most prodigiously talented young central defender in the world', highlighting the talent Chelsea have been able to sign in a £75million deal from Leicester. Should Fofana reach his expected potential and become one of the world's best centre-backs, Aubameyang could play a key role in helping the 21-year-old potentially become the Blues' future club captain and lead Tuchel's side to further success in the coming years.
