Chelsea's decision to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on deadline day in the summer transfer window has not gone to plan. Just days after the striker arrived at Stamford Bridge, Thomas Tuchel was sacked by Todd Boehly with the German being a key factor in persuading Aubameyang to join the west London club.
The 33-year-old striker has scored just one goal in 11 Premier League appearances and has now been omitted from the Blues' Champions League squad for the knockout rounds. Graham Potter's decision to leave Aubameyang out of his squad for the round of 16 tie against Borussia Dortmund may signal the end of his time with Chelsea.
"I don't think it's going to be difficult because Pierre is a professional and of course, I understand he will be disappointed," manager Potter said on the decision. "It was a tough decision, a tough call. We had three coming in and two had to go out. He was the one that missed out, he's done nothing wrong at all."

Reports have now revealed that Aubameyang could be set for a loan move to the MLS with LAFC looking to replace the recently retired Gareth Bale. According to Le10Sport, a deal has already been agreed with LAFC for a loan move for the remainder of the season but the Gabonese striker is hesitant of the switch across the Atlantic Ocean.
A report from 90min has stated that a number of MLS clubs have expressed an interest in bringing Aubameyang across to America. LAFC have emerged as the frontrunner, finding agreement with Chelsea for the striker's services.
There is a long way to go if Aubameyang is to complete a move to Los Angeles with the report adding that the player is not too keen on the move and would prefer to remain in Europe. It is thought that the Gabon international is weighing up his options and will give a definitive decision this weekend.
Aubameyang is clearly unhappy with how his time at Stamford Bridge has gone and an exit seems the best outcome for all parties. It remains to be seen whether any clubs in Europe will register a late move for him or if LAFC will win the race for his signature.
