Pierce Brosnan visits Ulster Aviation Society during NI visit

Pierce Brosnan has visited the Ulster Aviation Society during his Northern Ireland visit.

The James Bond star has been spotted out and about across the country in recent weeks.

He is currently in NI filming his upcoming movie, The Last Rifleman and plays a World War II veteran living in a care home here, who has just lost his wife.

Brosnan visited the Ulster Aviation Society's hangars near Lisburn for a quick photo beside one of the planes that had a registration number that was familiar to him.

The Phantom FG-1 has the registration number ‘007/XT864’ and flew with Royal Navy (Fleet Air Arm) 892 Squadron aboard HMS Ark Royal between 1974-1975.

A spokesperson for the society said: "Her service started in 1968 and lasted until she was retired in December 1988 after an incident while refuelling that cause damage to the tailplane. She was then assigned as a gate guard at RAF Leuchars and remained there until the base changed hands and was acquired by the Society in 2015 where she has been restored and repainted in this iconic colour scheme.

"The Society itself is a totally volunteer, registered charity, with over 690 members. It marked its 50th birthday in 2018 with the honour of a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

"There are over 44 aircraft and vehicles in the collection and these are housed in two original Second World War hangers on the original RAF Long Kesh site just outside Lisburn."

Earlier this month, the 69-year-old actor was spotted visiting family-run restaurant, Daft Eddy's near Whiterock in Co Down.

Brosnan was first spotted in NI enjoying a meal at Fontana Restaurant in Holywood, Co Down, on June 23.

In early July, he stopped by Deane's Love Fish in Belfast city centre.
