Pictures show popular Edinburgh park pond overflowing days after storm

Pictures showing the Blackford Duck Pond overflowing several days after the capital was battered by heavy rain pours have surfaced.

The pictures show the water coming up over the traditional edge of the pond and all the way up to the park benches that are used by visitors to the nature area.

A sign that gives details on the wildlife that can be found within the pond looks unreachable as the water has risen far beyond its traditional level.

The pathway that is used by dog walkers and locals is also covered by water which makes the park relatively unusable for those going for an afternoon stroll.

The weather had caused havoc for residents and visitors to the capital before New Year’s Eve as a US “cyclone bomb” hit Edinburgh with a yellow weather warning put in place by the MET Office.

Several rivers across the capital and in the Lothians broke their banks, including the River Almond, Water of Leith and River Esk.

Rising water levels at the River Almond led to the runway at Edinburgh Airport experiencing some surface water that took several hours to dissipate - thankfully the runway was still able to be used by the travel hub.

But several train services coming into and leaving Edinburgh had to be cancelled due to the heavy rainfall with Network Rail reporting that lines between Bathgate and Livingston had been inundated with water on Hogmanay.

It is not known when the water will recede back to its normal level at the popular natural spot.
