Pictures show full damage of late-night crash on busy Cardiff road

New pictures show the scale of damage caused by a driver who ploughed into parked cars on a busy Cardiff road.

A 20-year-old woman from St Mellons has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after crashing into two cars on Newport Road in Roath, at approximately 10.30pm on Tuesday (January 25).

The collision sent debris flying into the road, while residents reported damage to five cars parked on the road. The red Volkswagen Polo driven by the woman was completely written off.

Officers from South Wales Police said they attended the scene and stopped the driver, who registered an initial roadside breath test of 100 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath - almost three times the legal limit of 35.

Detectives added the driver later produced a sample of 85 micrograms per 100ml of breath while in custody.

One local resident told WalesOnline that the crash was the second incident of its kind to happen on the road in the last six months, and raised concerns about the lack of speed prevention measures in the area.

"Every evening it just seems to be thoroughfare for this racing mentality," they said. "You hear them between 11pm at night through to the early hours of the morning racing down Newport Road.

"It is an absolute concern, but nothing seems to get done about it. The area is now well known for this racing mentality, and yet there are no speed bumps, or cameras for that matter."
