Deonte Mowatt-Slater, 16 - (Metropolitan Police)

This is the first picture of a schoolboy who was stabbed to death in north London as a man appeared in court charged with murder.

Police found Deonte Mowatt-Slater, 16, injured when his motorcycle collided with a lamppost on Courtauld Road, Islington, shortly after midnight on Tuesday.

Medics treated the teenager at the scene in an attempt to save his life but despite their efforts, he sadly died on the junction with Beachcroft Way.

A post-mortem examination carried out on Friday gave the cause of death as stab injuries.

Francie McCarthy, 21, of Warrender Road, Tufnell Park, was remanded in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Saturday accused of murdering Deonte

His family continue to be supported by specially trained police officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with Deonte’s family at this extremely difficult time.

“Our inquiries are progressing well but we would continue to encourage anyone who saw anything or has any information to come forward and speak to us.

“My thoughts are with Deonte's family, friends and everyone impacted at this extremely difficult time.”

Anyone with information or footage/dash-cam relating to this incident should call police via 101, quoting 95/22OCT, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
