Oscar Piastri has set a red-hot pace to grab pole at the Bahrain Grand Prix and could even be in a position to change the balance of power at his McLaren team in his 50th F1 start.
For the flying Australian will start Sunday's race as hot favourite for victory while his teammate Lando Norris, who endured a miserable qualifying to finish sixth, cut a terse, frustrated figure on Saturday.
Until now, during his ever-improving spell at the British team, Piastri has largely had to live in the shadow of the team's perceived No.1 Norris, who leads the F1 drivers' championship by a point from champion Max Verstappen.
