THE Scotland team have been pictured leaving their hotel after their World Cup dream officially came to an end.
The players were snapped as they left the team hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Sunday.
Scotland's World Cup journey came to an end after finishing third in Group C, ahead of Haiti but behind Morocco and Brazil.
They suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat in Miami to Brazil on Wednesday evening, which all but sealed Scotland's exit.
Despite eight third-place teams going through to the knockout stage, Scotland's three points and -3 goal difference were not enough to make the cut.
Fears of the Tartan Army were confirmed when Croatia's 2-1 victory over Ghana officially pushed Scotland out last night.
The result led to Steve Clarke stepping down from his role as head coach.
In a letter, Clarke wrote: “The most emotional part of this goodbye is for my players, without whom we wouldn’t have had any of the memories that we’ve accumulated from 2019 until now.
"They deserve all the praise and adulation that they receive and it was truly an honour to be called their Gaffer.
“Thanks for having me and good luck to my successor.”
Writing on X/Twitter, First Minister, John Swinney, paid tribute to Clarke for what he had achieved in the role.
“I am sorry to hear that Steve Clarke has stood down as Head Coach @ScotlandNT,” the message read.
“He has taken the team and the country on an exciting journey to reach the World Cup for the first time in 28 years and he has so much to be proud of.
“I wish him well for the future.”
Swinney also reposted Clarke’s open letter to supporters, calling it “a fantastic, loving message to Scotland”.
