Photos of the week | August 1-6, 2026

It’s expected to be the final week before full-on August recess (fingers crossed). As the Senate raced to wrap up, a committee voted to hold Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s nomination moved out of committee. And candidates for the GOP nomination to replace Sen. Lindsey Graham on the ballot in South Carolina campaigned in advance of next week’s special primary election. CQ Roll Call photojournalists were there to capture the action.

Rep. Russell Fry, R-S.C., who is running for Senate, speaks at a stump event at the Charleston Rifle Club in Charleston, S.C., on Thursday. South Carolina Attorney General and GOP nominee for governor Alan Wilson, left, organized the event for candidates in the special primary election to replace the late Sen. Lindsey Graham.
