The Boston Celtics were ready to absorb the full blow of Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey without star Celtics big man Kristaps Porzingis as they hosted the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night. But the injury bug had other ideas, putting both Embiid and Maxey on the bench.
But that wrinkle may have put the Celtics’ guard down, with the Sixers bringing it to Boston with all their healthy players had. Then, Jayson Tatum got himself ejected at the end of the game’s third quarter, and it looked like curtains for the Celtics. But outstanding play from Al Horford, Payton Pritchard, and particularly Derrick White pulled out the victory for Boston.
