The Boston Celtics got their first up close and personal look at San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama before the end of the new year, facing off with the Spurs on New Year’s Eve.
As imposing as the 7-foot-4 Frenchman can be, the win was a wire-to-wire one for the Celtics, who never trailed in their 134-101 blowout of San Antonio, jumping out to a solid early lead that grew steadily as the game progressed. Leading by as much as 37 points, Boston outrebounded San Antonio 56-39 and won the block battle 7-1 while turning the ball over 5 fewer times to lay the groundwork for their final win of 2023.
