Photo that proves pavement parking is 'out of control' on city centre street

A frustrated resident of a community on the outskirts of Liverpool city centre said the issue of pavement parking is "out of control" in the area.

Images sent to the Liverpool ECHO show a large number of cars parked either partially or fully on pavements in Upper Pitt Street. The street lies on the edge of Liverpool city centre and close to the Anglican Cathedral and Baltic Triangle district.

Pavement parking has been a major issue in Liverpool for some years now. It can make life particularly difficult for people in wheelchairs or parents with prams who struggle to navigate the area where drivers have parked across pavements.

The local resident who sent the pictures said: "Pavement parking on Upper Pitt St is out of control.

"A number of residents are parking their vehicles on the pavement in our neighbourhood. This is causing significant problems for pedestrians, particularly those who are elderly, disabled, or with young children.

"The pavement is meant to be a safe and accessible space for all members of the community to walk on, and it is unacceptable that it has become obstructed by cars. This is particularly concerning because it forces pedestrians to walk onto the road, which can be dangerous and puts their safety at risk.

"I have noticed that this problem has been getting worse over time, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to navigate the pavements. It is especially concerning that emergency services vehicles would be unable to access certain areas because of the cars parked on the pavement."

Liverpool City Council has pledged to do more to combat selfish pavement parking around the city. The issue will be one for cabinet member Dan Barrington to take on in the council's new administration.

Cllr Barrington has been named as the cabinet lead for Transport and Connectivity in Liam Robinson's new top team. One focus of his job will be to tackle parking issues across the city.
