Phillip Schofield's return date to TV confirmed after shock This Morning exit

Phillip Schofield's return date to television following his This Morning exit has been confirmed.

The TV presenter stepped down from the mid-morning show over the weekend, with last Thursday being his final day at the helm of the ITV show after over two decades on screen. It has been confirmed he will be hosting the British Soap Awards as planned, which will be filmed for ITV on Saturday June 3rd live from The Lowry in Manchester.

However, it has now been confirmed that the actual awards will air on TV at a later date. The show will be filmed in Manchester over the weekend before being aired on ITV a few days later.

This means that Phillip's return to television will be on Tuesday June 6th at 8pm on ITV1.

In a statement over the weekend, Phil confirmed he was stepping down from This Morning with immediate effect.

"I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story. Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love," he said.

"So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me - and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month."

At the time, Holly Willoughby also issued a statement as she bid farewell to her co-presenter.

She said: "It’s been over 13 great years presenting This Morning with Phil and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his knowledge, his experience and his humour. The sofa won’t feel the same without him."

On Monday, Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary led tributes to Phil, as she said: "It’s been over 13 great years presenting This Morning with Phil and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his knowledge, his experience and his humour."

"As a show, everyone on and off screen want to say a huge thank you to Phil for what he's done to make the show a success over the last 21 years," Dermot then added before the pair moved on to the news segments.
