Phillip Schofield feels he's been shown 'zero respect' by ITV over This Morning axe

Phillip Schofield reportedly feels like he has been shown "zero respect" by ITV bosses over his departure from This Morning.

After 21 years fronting the series, Phillip announced his exit on Saturday afternoon with a statement about the last "difficult few days".

Phil and co-host Holly Willoughby had a successful 13-year partnership but things turned sour with weeks of rumours about their behind-the-scenes relationship.

However, it was recently reported that Phillip felt like he wasn't shown any "respect" by producers amid the drama.

"Phil feels he has been shown zero respect and he is devastated by how this has played out," an insider said.

"He thinks the way he was forced to step down was so unjust and he feels completely broken by how this situation has been handled."

The source added to The Sun that Phillip felt like he was "knifed" as there wasn't a proper discussion between him and his bosses.

Mirror have contacted his representatives for comment.

His exit follows reports Holly and Phil's relationship had "cooled" and that Phil's position was looking "increasingly precarious".

Phillip announced his departure on Saturday afternoon with a statement that read: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.

"Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

"So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month."

Meanwhile, Holly Willoughby added: "It’s been over 13 great years presenting This Morning with Phil and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his knowledge, his experience and his humour. The sofa won’t feel the same without him."

Fans and bookies have spent the last few weeks voting for their favourite stars to replace Phil.

Many believe Dermot O'Leary is the perfect option for the show while some are hoping for the return of Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.
