Phillip Schofield addresses Dancing on Ice absence as fans call for Stephen Mulhern to return

Phillip Schofield returned to Dancing on Ice tonight but many fans felt unhappy with his return.

The TV presenter was absent from last week's show after testing positive for Covid and TV presenter and entertainer Stephen Mulhern was called in to cover.

Phillip opened tonight's show by saying he had "serious FOMO" after missing out on last week's show, but it was made better by "four or five gin and tonics".

He also took the time to praise Stephen Mulhern, who announced that he would be joining Dancing on Ice co-presenter Holly Willoughby just hours before the show aired on ITV.

But fans were left crying out for the return of the In For A Penny host, who won over fans and received a standing ovation from the audience after stepping in for Phillip.

It was the first time in 16 years that the pair were reunited on screen, having previously hosted a number of children's TV shows together, as well as Ministry of Mayhem in 2006.

One fan took to Twitter to say: "No offence to Phil but I think Stephen Mulhern is a better fit for #DancingOnIce his presenting was part of my childhood with CITV and Ministry of Mayhem"

While another added: "Philip Schofield still looks ill is he worried about Stephen Mulhern stealing the show from him? #DancingOnIce"

Their comments accompanied a flurry of tweets reading "Bring back Stephen Mulhern".

Holly took to social media after the show last week to say that she “loved” sharing the screen with Stephen after more than a decade.

She posted: "Standing ovation for @stephenmulhern after being parachuted in at the last minute tonight… loved sharing the screen with you again after 16 years… well done Darlin."

But tonight she seemed pleased to have Phillip back on the show, after he returned to TV earlier this week having tested negative for Covid.
