Philadelphia’s district attorney has requested a judge to expedite the case against Tesla CEO Elon Musk regarding his cash giveaway to voters. District Attorney Larry Krasner, a progressive Democrat, filed a court request on Monday to hold a hearing on Wednesday instead of Friday to address the issue.
Krasner has sued Musk and his pro-Trump super PAC, alleging that their actions constitute an “illegal lottery scheme” that violates state gaming laws. The district attorney argued that delaying the hearing until Friday would allow continued interference with the election, just days before the Presidential Election.
As of now, Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge Angelo Foglietta has not responded to the request, and the hearing is scheduled for Friday morning, four days before Election Day.
Elon Musk's controversial sweepstakes involves giving $1 million daily to a registered voter in a battleground state who signs an online petition supporting the US Constitution. Despite warnings from legal experts and the Justice Department about potential violations of federal laws against offering cash or prizes for voter registration, Musk has defended the giveaway.
On Monday, Musk's pro-Trump group, America PAC, announced a new winner, prompting Krasner to raise concerns about the group's intention to continue awarding $1 million to voters unlawfully. The super PAC also named another winner on Tuesday morning, a voter from Griffin, Georgia.
