Phil Mickelson has outlined his plans to become a major champion again, and admitted he is 'at peace' with not playing golf on the PGA Tour. Mickelson was banned from the PGA Tour last summer - along with a number of other big stars - after joining the LIV Golf Series.
After announcing himself as one of the Tour's - and sport's - greatest ever players, the American's legacy has seemingly been tainted due to his newfound links over the past 12 months. The PGA Tour currently finds itself locked in a legal battle with LIV Golf, with the players' eligibility a large component in the case.
Despite the ongoing dispute and having spent almost his whole playing career on the PGA Tour, Mickelson is seemingly happy to never tee it up on the American-based circuit again.
The 54-time PGA Tour winner told Sports Illustrated : "If I were never to play another PGA Tour event, I’m totally at peace with it. But I believe by next year I’ll have the opportunity if I want [due to the pending litigation]. I don’t know if I’ll have the time.
"I’m playing 19 events and don’t know how much more. I’d actually rather scale down the number of tournaments, because I’m also in the four majors. That’s a lot of golf... If I win another Tour event, who cares? It’s not like it’s going to do anything for how I look at my career."
Whilst Lefty has seemingly given up hope on his PGA Tour prospects, one aspect Mickelson he is still keen to battle for is another major title. The now 52-year-old became the oldest major champion in the sport's history in 2021, after winning his second PGA Championship.
Since then the American's form on and off the course has trended downwards, but he still has plans of adding a seventh and potential eighth major crown to his CV. He commented: "At 52, my body feels great. Had a great offseason.

"I feel I’m in really good shape. I’ve never had injuries. I’ve made changes I'm in every major for the next three years and I think I have a chance to win one or two more and create these accomplishments that haven’t been done at this stage.
"I feel like I can duplicate Kiawah... Another major would be a unique, special moment. That’s really where I want to thrive." After a chaotic 2022, Mickelson will be looking to get his career back on track when he kicks off his 2023 season at Mayokoba, for LIV's campaign opener in Mexico.
