Cluj-Napoca and PGL have extended their partnership through 2029, locking in the BT Arena as a home for world-class CS2 competition for at least five consecutive years. The city’s mayor, Emil Boc, made the announcement via an Instagram post, confirming that the Transylvanian city will host PGL events in 2027, 2028, and 2029.
“We have extended our partnership with PGL Romania for 2027, 2028 and 2029 so that in the BT Arena multipurpose hall in Cluj-Napoca we can also organize world-class esports competitions in the coming years, just as we did this year,” Boc said in his announcement.
The extension builds on the first two iterations of the event. In 2025, MOUZ lifted their first, and so far only, trophy with Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin at the helm against a weaker field of competition. But for 2026, the tournament’s significance in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) ensured that nearly every top-10 squad attended the event.

PGL secure dates for Cluj-Napoca 2027, 2028
According to HLTV, PGL has already secured dates for both 2027 and 2028, with the event set to stick with its mid-February timeline. Here are the dates for PGL Cluj-Napoca:
- PGL Cluj-Napoca 2027—Feb. 13 to 21, 2027
- PGL Cluj-Napoca 2028—Feb. 9 to 21, 2028
- PGL Cluj-Napoca 2029—TBA
Notably, the event adds four extra days to the 2028 edition, possibly signaling a format change, or a longer break between the group stage and the playoffs.
For PGL, the deal cements Cluj-Napoca as its flagship event of the year. The city has already hosted a CS:GO major in 2015, and the TO will be hoping to rival the likes of IEM Katowice/Krakow and IEM Cologne for their prestige title. Meanwhile, for the Romanian city, it signals a long-term ambition to become a premier destination for esports in Europe.
