PGA Of America Ends Player Of The Year Awards

The PGA of America has quietly decided to discontinue its long-standing awards for PGA Tour players, including the player of the year and the Vardon Trophy. This decision comes after Xander Schauffele, the PGA Championship and British Open champion, appeared to have secured the player of the year award with his impressive performance this year. However, the PGA of America confirmed that they will no longer present these awards as similar accolades are already being awarded by the PGA Tour.

PGA Tour Player of the Year Award

The PGA Tour's player of the year award, named after Jack Nicklaus, is determined by a vote among players. This year's competition is fierce, with Scottie Scheffler standing out for his remarkable achievements, including winning the Masters, The Players Championship, and an Olympic gold medal. However, the debate over whether multiple majors or overall performance should take precedence could sway the final decision.

End of Vardon Trophy

The Vardon Trophy, which dates back to 1937, has also been discontinued by the PGA of America. This award recognized the player with the lowest adjusted scoring average over a specified number of rounds. The PGA Tour's Byron Nelson Award mirrors this accolade, albeit with a slightly different round requirement. The decision to end the Vardon Trophy marks a significant shift in the golf awards landscape.

Nelly Korda's Major Victory

Nelly Korda, despite facing challenges in some major tournaments, secured a major victory at the LPGA earlier this year. Her resilience and determination have been evident throughout the season, with six wins and a major title under her belt. Korda remains focused on her performance and looks forward to upcoming events to showcase her skills.
