Louisville police have just released a video capturing the moments leading up to his arrest at the PGA Championship, shedding light on the incident. The video shows Scheffler's vehicle arriving at the golf course amidst traffic resulting from a fatal bus accident. Detective Brian Gillis of the Louisville police can be seen in the video, running up and striking Scheffler's vehicle before it comes to a stop.
Scheffler is now facing several charges, including three misdemeanors and a felony second-degree assault of a police officer, which carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Detective Gillis reported sustaining injuries after attempting to stop the vehicle initially, alleging that Scheffler demanded to be let in and proceeded to move the vehicle against his instructions, resulting in him being dragged and knocked down. However, these specific actions are not visible in the released video, as there is no footage from the officer's body camera due to a failure to activate it, a violation of department policy.
